Tender shoots of tea buds are plucked during the first flush of spring and then expertly processed by hand into these tightly rolled pure bud "pearls" of fresh tea.

Our Imperial Grade Bi Luo Chun was grown in the town of Mojiang in Simao. The tea varietal used is a hybrid of Assamica called Yunkang #100.

The taste of the tea is sweet, thick and vibrant. There is some slight astringency that counters the sweetness, lending it depth and complexity.

We recommend brewing with 90C water. One flash rinse (about 10 seconds), then brew for 15-20 seconds and enjoy! With each successive infusion add 15 seconds.

A beautiful green tea with a savory surprise

"This is an incredibly beautiful tea. The dry leaf is silky to the touch and genuinely pleasant to handle - the kind of tea you want to roll around in your hand for a second before brewing. The aroma is also really intriguing. You may think I’m crazy, but I get lasagna from this tea: tomato paste, cooked vegetables, and warm savory dinner vibes. It is savory, but not in the typical green tea chestnut/vegetal kind of way. It is funny because the tea looks so delicate and beautiful that you almost expect something light and floral, and then it hits you with lasagna dinner. Overall, this tea is fun, tasty, and memorable. I like it most in the first couple of steeps, where that savory character is most present. For gongfu brewing, I usually start around 80–85°C and work my way up toward 90–95°C. The higher temperatures may be unconventional, but I think the tea has more to give if you don’t mind a bit of astringency. I don’t think I’m a huge green tea person, so I probably won’t come back to this one soon. But I’m glad I bought it, and I had a lot of fun drinking it. If you are exploring green teas, I can happily recommend this one."
