This year's Impression cake is a blend of tea leaves from Spring and Autumn, originating from Mengku, Bang Dong, and Jing Gu tea gardens.  This year we've also blended in some lightly aged mao cha, giving the tea a smooth warm viscous character right from the get go!

The tea has been grown naturally and processed in the traditional method. We blended various teas together to achieve a powerful blend that has strong mouth feeling, cha qi and a balanced sweet, bitter and astringent profile.

In 2012 I created the first impression blend to be an alternative to a Xiaguan or Da Yi 7542, but it has far surpassed those mass market teas in both quality and value!  I also feel strongly that this tea being very strong in aroma, mouthfeel, bitter/astringent, infusability and Cha Qi, makes it a good choice for long-term aging!

Better than I was expecting

"Recipe: 5g>125g @25s. I am getting alot of beautiful enzymatic flavors. Floral and a bright sweetness. The only bitter note I am getting is a like cilantro soapyness when brewed harder. The aftertaste coats a large portion of my palette, but does not extend to the back of my tongue where I usually experience bitter flavors. Tastes just as good if not better than some 100 dollar cakes I have sampled recently"

Fresh,

"Dry scent is light tobacco, nori, and hay. This is my first puerh session! First steep or two are light and herbal. Pleasant. The next few steeps are still herbal, but some bitterness and astringency kick in, but in a pleasant way that makes sense within the whole flavor profile, and that profile is tasty. It is not milk and sugar black tea type of flavor, more like green oolong, but somehow different. I can see why people get into this flavor, and if my system finds it agreeable, I could really get into it as well. The cha qi is more a strong feeling of “awareness” versus monkey brain. I feel energy in my chest. I don’t feel negativity so far. Beautiful yellow-green herbal water color. There is a lot of caution out there on raw puerh, which made me nervous about trying it, but this is very enjoyable. Update: I drank the 2023 Purple Love Bunny, and the hop-bitterness blew my head off. Definitely not for me, personally. Maybe that’s where the caution comes from, that raw puerh can vary dramatically in style. So there’s probably something for everyone. Looking forward to exploring more!"

"Medium body, some lingering astringency marshmallow sweet, floral, fennel, strawberry, honeysuckle Bitterness grows after the 4th or 5th infusion but the complexity and fruitiness grows. Lovely relaxing body sensation, sharper focus but almost a lazy sensation. A really fun session"

Very bitter, yet complex

"This was the first puerh I ever tried. After having tried other ones, I can see that this one is particularly bitter and astringent. It can be overpowering, so shorter steeps may suit this tea more. At the 20-25 sec mark, the bitterness is not as strong and the tea shines."

Good when brewed precisely

"A give it 4 stars, but 4 means Good. Indeed it could be bitter if you brew for too long, so play with time and find what's good for you. For me it's 15-20 seconds."

Love it

"First time trying Raw Puerh Tea and I got a sample of this in a sampler pack. At first I didn't care for it but now I find myself wanting more. Nice floral taste with almost a tobacco hint. Nice mouth feel with this tea and I definitely recommend it."
