Yakou Natural Farming Qing Xin "Emperor of the Hornet" Oolong Tea - Spring 2023
Due to this season's unstable weather and draught, we experienced a great reduction of harvest this year. The yield of "Lily Dancong" was decreased by more than 70%, and so did the powerful Yakou plantation. However, this disadvantage gave us a rare vista point to look beyond the horizon. We were able to experiment something completely new from our previous works.
Like "Lily Dancong," we applied the same processing method to our classical Yakou material this season by adding the labor intensive "manual big waving" this season. People who are familiar with tea processing will know "big waving" is the final stage a tea must go through before being placed into the "fermentation stage." For a classical oolong like our "Hornet Series" this stage was normally done purely by a machine. However, thanks to the small quantity we are facing this time, we were able to implement some degree of "hand waving" into this stage, which enabled us to do a more delicate and deeper destruction to the cell wall of the tea.
With "hand waving" applied, a technique that usually will only be used on Oriental Beauty Oolong, the "Hornet Series" this season evolved into a breed we never encountered before. Furthermore, we decided to make the overall character further polished by a deeper roasting level for this new tea we never created before, resulting a richly powerful Qing Xin Oolong that made us drool.
This is a tea that could only be forged in the harsh time of the industry, and we hope this unprecendented "Emperor of the Hornet" will make a unforgettable mark in our collection and be that timeless piece in the memory of a tea lover's tea journey.
