Hui Long Zhai lies in the western part of the county of Teng Chong (Bao Shan Prefecture), a mountainous region with peaks as high as 3000 meters bordering Myanmar.  Relatively cool weather and high altitude conditions makes this one of the latest picked "first flush" teas in Yunnan, it is picked in the late part of April and in September. Buds and leaves are picked together just as they sprout and are then wok-fired by hand for a very short time but at a high temperature.  The result is a tea with longer shelf life, and more importantly a high level of aroma when brewed!  This tea is nutty with a fast huigan, but is a little more bitter and stimulating than Simao area green teas!  My personal new favorite green tea!  A good choice for a morning wake up brew or a brief departure from raw pu-erh!

Production period: Mid-April

One of my favorite green teas yet.

"Aroma: highly fragrant dry and wet. Lots of grass, hay, umami, hints of citrus like lemon zest and some honey as well. Taste: depends on temp and length of steeps but generally melon, peach, muscatel, tones of celery, spinach and roasted nuts too. Mouth feel: very thick, especially for a green tea, and a nice returning sweetness that kicks in fast. Can have some sheng-like bittersweetness that can play with it as well depending on temps and steep times."

Excellent green Yunnan, with a

"Excellent green Yunnan, with a fresh floral scent. It is pretty tannic---my preference is to brew it in water that is not too hot; I start from 146 F, increasing the temperature gradually with consecutive steepings. The leaves easily give 6 brews in a gaiwan---up to 8 if you do not mind a llittle tartness."

Superb! A nice, complex flavor

"Superb! A nice, complex flavor profile with hints of parsley and celery, and a nutty background. I steeped it for just over 2 minutes at 175 degrees F. Enjoy!"

Wishlist Worthy

"Recently purchased a few different green teas and this was the standout of the bunch by far. I love nutty teas and this scratched that itch, but I was surprised to find the nuttiness was not my favorite aspect of this tea. The level of astringency was perfect to me. After drinking, my mouth felt slightly drier than before, but not completely stripped. It was a delightful and energizing sensation. For some reason, it conjured the same feeling as my favorite late autumn/early spring days where the air is cool but the sun is warm. Kicking myself for not ordering more up front, so I'm rationing what I have on hand for the time being. Absolutely delighted and thankful to YS for stocking it!"

Sweet and grassy

"It is a classic chinese green tea. Sweet smell dry and wet, sweet, grassy taste with a pleasant, mild astringent aftertaste. I enjoy it."

The best

"There comes a point when you these teas are so good, you can't say one is better than the other. This tea is definitely in my top 3. Each sip is a delight. What really puts this in the top tier for me is the dry, tingly aftertaste. I hold off eating after drinking this tea because I want that mouth taste/ mouth feel to last as long as possible."

Yunnan Green is a freshness Dream

"The first thing I noticed when opening the bag of tea was the fresh smell. The wet leaves smell like seaweed, showing off their freshness. The Tea is delicious, covering the inside of my mouth with the thick soup of the Tea. Each sip just gets better and makes me want more. I like it with a touch of honey, but it's wonderful plain as well."
