Sentinel Mountain is located in the Yun Tai mountain area of  An Hua County of Hunan Province and is home to some of Hunan's most remote and wild tea gardens. This tea is from those "un-tended and wild" tea gardens at an altitude of 1200 to 1350 meters above sea level.  The Yun Tai mountains have a karst base and are very steep.  They provide excellent drainage, access to direct sunlight and mineral nutrients to the tea plants.

Incredibly unique Fu Zhuan tea!  Light to medium level of smokiness, caramel, fruit, and mushroom broth abounds!  Smooth and sweet after-taste, with a lubricating mouth feel!  Nice warming character with restorative cha qi.  A great tea to enjoy when you want something complex and tasty, but don't want to be over-stimulated!

Good but leaks too hard into bbq

"Sweet smokey and thirsty quenching -- a good brick, perhaps a bit too much bbq flavor, too meaty"

Update, I Used This Tea To Make The Best Kombucha Ever

"In a 2 gallon jar using my giant scoby, I just produced the best tasting kombucha I've ever had. I fermented it for 10 days before stopping the process. Ingredients are a little over 2 cups of dark brown sugar & this exact smoky tasting hei cha tea. I also poured some cold filtered water into the bottom of the jar so I could pour the hot tea straight in without the jar exploding. Next I let the tea cool down to room temperature, added the sugar, & stirred it. Finally I added my giant kombucha scoby + a few big spoonfuls of liquid from a previous kombucha batch. I then covered the top of the jar with a cloth napkin plus rubber band. And then I let it sit on my desk for 10 days, at upwards of room temperature. Notably I used a larger amount of tea than most people would have for kombucha. 32 grams of tea total, spaced out across 5-6 liters of water. I did 16 grams of tea for every 1 liter of water, 5 mins per steep. I used just off boil water to brew each batch of tea. I did do a wash for the tea to wake it up, but was short & minimal. The flavor of the tea carried through very well for this kombucha, its smoky, sweet, & vinegar-ey with a hint of yeast & apple juice notes."

Tea Is Like An Ultra Manly Cologne or Scotch Whisky

"I made myself a 16oz beer stein of this tea when I first got it, the amount of leaves I used for it was 1 tablespoon & the water was just off boil. Its easily the strangest tea I've ever tasted up to this point. Its really smoky, has an indescribably odd sweetness to it, & often gains a burnt caramel note. Its also the first tea I've had that had a thick & lubricating mouthfeel like the description said it would. Best I can discribe this tea is its like a manly cologne or scotch whiskey. My stepdad thought it smelled like old southern men making hickory smoked BBQ & my oldest stepbrother more amusingly thought it smelled like a bug of some kind. I've since used my silver plated coffee pot to brew this tea & that came out even better than it did when brewed it in the beer stein. This tea is very beginner friendly in that the flavors are strong enough to be unlocked with minimal effort. I've since tasted other teas sold under the hei cha category & this tea seems to be an outlier, it doesn't have the yeasty/bready or sour/sharp notes I tasted in those other hei chas. I've bought this tea on both the Yunnan Sourcing US Site & the regular Yunnan Sourcing Site."

Smoky!

"Really like this tea. It has a lot of stems, the sample I got, so it's a little sweeter if I lean into more of those in the gaiwan. It's thicker when I lean into more leaves. Really smoky, like scotch. This tea is awesome."
