Da Shan (lit. Big Mountain) is an area in the northwest of Jinggu county not too far from Bang Dong area (Lincang). Our Da Shan black tea is plucked from mature large leaf taliensis tea trees (aged 40 to 100 years). These are the same tea trees used to make pu-erh tea, but can also be processed into black tea with excellent results.

Smooth, fruity and malty, with light, floral astringency that will gradually transform into chocolatey sweetness as the months and years roll by.

250 Gram per cake (5 cakes per bamboo leaf tong)

40 Kilograms in total (just 160 cakes)

Wrapper Design by Elena Marie Honzáková

My fiancé picked this tea

"My fiancé picked this tea because of the lovely wrapper art and out of curiosity at never having tried a taliensis variety before. It’s quickly become a favorite of ours! The compression of the cake is not too dense, and breaking pieces off for brewing doesn’t take a lot of work like some other pressed black teas I’ve acquired in the past. The tasting notes in the description are accurate, and I would add a presence of creamy ube or taro root as well. It’s a lovely tea to enjoy after dessert or to gently wake up the body in the morning."

Full spectrum black

"I brewed the crap outta this thing as the cake is pretty dense and compact. Just breaking it apart I needed an ice chizzle, so make sure to leave the lid on between brews to open it up until it does. This cake is extremely forgiving to brew, so I mostly kept the temps relatively high and/or let the fairness cup earn its keep by cooling it down a bit when and if needed for a different experience. My brewing ratios were either 15 or 30 second increments. I played around with the temps a bit based on previous reviews of this cake, and ultimately found lower temp brewing to be highly inaccurate. I stayed between 190-boiling and also switched to silver instead of nixing for this one in particular, brought out the big guns. Flavors: raspberry or currant, freshly made leather, unsweetened marshmallow, pillowy mouthfeel, lubricating for sure, very slight bitterness from the dark chocolate finish. I absolutely love this tea, and a welcoming experience from sweet black teas for sure."

Very Good

"I purchased the whole cake, it’s stupendous, I have enjoyed it a lot when I learned how to brew correctly, the way I brew this one is a lower temp water at first like you would a white tea actually and then increase the temp after the third infusion into like a normal black tea gungfu style"

Sun-Dried Awesomeness

"This is a fantastic tea, worthy of 5 stars and then some. The first reviewer knocked off a star because they didn't know how to brew it, and that's just silly. A Ferrari is not a less of a sweet car simply because you have to learn how to harness its power, and the same can be said for this tea. If you're into black teas and things that are dried in the sun, you're going to love this tea."

A pleasant surprise

"This tea is very nice when you get the nack for brewing it that is why I gave it 4 stars. Brew it like a green tea 180F"

Marvelous!

"Pressed black tea from Yunnan is recently my favorite tea. This particular cake is strong tasting, a little sweet and very aromatic. A little less earthy than Ku Zhu teas---which is not better or worse, just different. This tea gives easily 7 brews, sometimes more. I start at 176 degrees and gradually go up to 190. Don't drink it at night if caffeine affects your sleep!"
