Wild Tree "Ye Sheng" Black Tea

I enjoyed this one so much that I purchased an entire cake! This 2005 production is definitely slightly better than the 2006. The price for this tea is fantastic. It's not a particularly special, interesting, or high-quality tea, but it offers tons of pleasant smoke, aged, and fruity flavor that makes it very much worth it.

It's small and convenient for 1 person

Floral is not my favorite taste or aroma, but this one really catches my attention. The astringency is low for a floral which I like. There is a vegetal presence with the floral which I have decided is "jasmine asparagus" which is quite unique. There is a nice finish which I decided is "creamy green" and possibly that asparagus again. After many steeps, the leaves turn to a woody aroma, but the tea tastes the same. I find the layers complex and intriguing and it is a good tea to relax to while contemplating the aroma, taste, finish, and observing the beautiful rolled leaves changing into full beautiful green leaves.

I rarely find Dancong that smells or tastes like the cultivar's name, but I definitely get some sweet potato from this. It is quite fragrant, and unlike a lot of Dancong it leans more herbal/fruity/sweet to me, rather than floral. I get the sweetness of root vegetables without the earthiness. Later steeps bring out a bit of a melon note to me. It's a pretty unique Dancong and I like it quite a bit.
