Sanlun Organic Arbor "The Ridge" Oolong Tea - Winter 2021

If you already tried our "Mountain" black tea, you will realize this particular material from Sanlun village has a powerful potential to be made into any tea. Like the TTES #8 we made this winter, this is an interesting varietal that has baffled farmers and us for years now finally being made into a oolong tea.

The tea trees were planted with seed decades ago, so even Mr. Xie was not very sure what exactly the varietal was. All he could tell us was it was the arbor varietal, and nothing more. The harvest of this tea has been little since it was planted, and this harvest is no exception. To reduce the cost of plucking labor, this material was plucked together with "the Eight" and was processed on the same day. This meant there were two types of teas to be taken care of on the same day, but we had to use a different mindset to approach each of them.

Thankfully, the completion of each tea was not compromised by the complexity of dual processing. As the final tea were made and tried, we realized some character of this tea resembles the "Shan" varietal we carried which is a varietal that was originated from Burmese region.

This powerful tea will be the affordable version of the wild arbor teas we carried every spring. If you haven't tried the character of a wild arbor oolong, this newly introduced "the Ridge" can be a stepping stone into that mesmerizing world of tea.
